I’m not going to debate religion, but to the folks fussing about not being able to “go to church” on Easter Sunday (or at all recently) due to COVID-19, as a reminder to everyone who’s Christian, the Church is not a building. And you’re no more a Christian by sitting in a building, or even in a house (for those in house churches and small groups) than you are a block of cheese by sitting in the dairy aisle. Your “faith” isn’t a Sunday morning thing for an hour. It’s a lifestyle that encompasses your whole existence.
There are plenty of ways to stay connected remotely. Watch a church service on TV or online. Reach out to one another on this Easter Sunday via phone, social media or video call.
And please, think of others over yourself. While you may not think that you have COVID-19, you very well could have it and not even know it. And even if you’re not “at-risk”, you could catch it and spread it to someone who is. As drastic as it may sound, you could very well be responsible for someone else’s death because you simply did not think about others. That’s a tragedy.
Related, to think that you’re somehow cloaked with immunity is downright ridiculous (vocal people with similar thoughts have already caught COVID-19 and died from it). Please, I implore you, use your heads right now.
As much as “social distancing” sucks, there will be a time to gather again. And it will be sooner rather than later if everyone would just cooperate. The government isn’t out to get you. They’re doing what they can to ensure your future, which includes both your health and economic stability (which is a discussion for another time). So please, stop with conspiracy theories and maybe take the time to do something around your home that you’ve been putting off for a while. Stay safe and healthy in the meantime.
