Indiana Gun Stats to Chew On

October 16, 2015 by Brian Groce Leave a Comment

Per Indiana State Police Firearms Licensing Statistics, here are the active licensing statistics for the 2nd quarter of 2012 & 2015.

2nd Quarter 2012
(June 30, 2012)

Female Male TOTAL
44,805 203,898 248,703

2nd Quarter 2015
(June 30, 2015)

Female Male TOTAL
136,182 459,179 595,361

In December 2012 the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting took place, and the federal government jumped into their “gun control” agenda again. By the end of the 1st quarter of 2013 the total number of active Indiana firearm licenses jumped up to 466,275. That is an increase of 217,572, or 87.5%, in a matter of 9 months.

Fast forward three years and the number of active Indiana firearm licenses jumps up to 595,361, or 139%, in the past three years.

Looking at those numbers, female licences TRIPLED in that time frame, and male licences more than DOUBLED.

Note that these are only licenses to carry firearms. It does not necessarily include those who keep a hand gun, or long gun, at home for home protection. Nor does it give you a real idea of how many guns are actually owned. Most gun owners I know own a handgun, a rifle and a shotgun, at the bare minimum. Most also own some sort of .22 for target practice.

Bottom line, this is exactly what I expected to happen. And I’m all for it.

If only we lived in a society taught how to properly carry and use firearms instead of being taught to fear them, this country would be a different place. Our government leaders won’t go to the bathroom without an armed detail outside of the stall, yet everywhere you turn there are signs posted letting lunatics know exactly where to find unarmed targets. When an incident happens with some fool shooting up the place, what usually stops it? Someone else with a firearm.

My friends and family have heard me say it over and over again. If you’re a criminal and you head out on your dastardly deeds, you’re going to think twice before heading somewhere where half of the occupants could be packing. Criminals are typically dumb, but they usually have enough sense to take the path of least resistance.

The problem is not guns, the problem is unstable people.
